NASA Unveils Astronaut Crew for Artemis III Mission with ESA’s Luca Parmitano as Pilot

On June 9, NASA revealed the astronaut lineup for the upcoming Artemis III mission, featuring ESA’s Luca Parmitano in the role of pilot. The European Space Agency (ESA) is contributing its third European Service Module for this important crewed test flight, which will take place in Earth’s orbit. This mission is designed to focus on testing mechanisms for rendezvous and docking, crucial for future lunar exploration endeavors. Joining Parmitano are three NASA astronauts: mission commander Randy Bresnik, along with lander specialists Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas. The crew will now embark on an intense training regimen to familiarize themselves with the Orion spacecraft systems and the intricacies of human landing operations, all in preparation for a series of critical demonstrations leading up to a Moon landing mission.
