The European Space Agency (ESA) is now accepting applications for its 2026 Graduate Trainee program, inviting individuals with academic backgrounds in engineering, science, information technology, or business to pursue opportunities at the forefront of space exploration. This program provides a unique chance for candidates to engage with leading experts and contribute to groundbreaking space missions in a collaborative international environment.
Prospective applicants should be nearing the completion of their Master’s degree or recently graduated within the last year. Eligible candidates must hold citizenship from ESA Member States, Associate Members, European Cooperating States, or Canada. The program allows each candidate to submit up to three applications, giving them a chance to select roles that align with their qualifications and career goals.
Participants in the Graduate Trainee program can expect an enriching experience as they work alongside a diverse team of professionals from across Europe. The position is offered on a one-year contract basis, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Trainees will enjoy a competitive salary, exempt from national income tax in ESA Member States, along with benefits such as travel expense reimbursement, paid leave, and contributions to a social security and pension scheme.
ESA is also hosting three informative sessions for interested candidates. The first session, scheduled for February 5, will focus on the various entry-level programs, including the Graduate Trainee initiative. Subsequent sessions will feature current trainees discussing their experiences and insights about the application process.
For those looking to start their journey in the space sector, the ESA Graduate Trainee program represents a significant opportunity to gain valuable experience and foster a career within one of the world’s leading space agencies. Applications are open now, and details about the program can be explored on the ESA careers website.
